Spirometry

Spirometry (spirography) - the method of graphic registration of changes over time of the inhaled and exhaled air during a series of respiratory maneuvers. Carried out using special instruments - spirography. The results obtained in the form spirograms by which to quantify the amount of air inhaled and exhaled with each cycle of breathing lung capacity - the maximum amount that a person can exhale after a maximal deep breath; reserve volume inspiratory and expiratory flow - the maximum amount of air breathed in, respectively, after a relaxing breath and exhaled after a quiet expiration, which allows to assess violations and reserve the possibility of respiratory lung function. By spirograms can define parameters of pulmonary ventilation: respiratory minute volume and maximum ventilation, and minute oxygen consumption. Spirograph is a tank of variable volume, to which by means of ducts connects the patient. Changes in breathing volume of air in the lungs and, consequently, in the capacity of spirograph as recorded on the graphic tape.
Spirography is important in the diagnosis of various chronic lung disease - chronic pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, pneumosclerosis, chronic bronchial asthma, etc.
